This Alachua County lake house perfectly embodies the Modern Coastal Farmhouse aesthetic in every space as a nod to Lake Santa Fe just outside its windows. Robinson Renovation & Custom Homes used a refreshing color palette of blues, bright white, and natural wood that leaves the home feeling airy and comforting. The team created the perfect place to spend hours relaxing and gazing out of the windows to appreciate the natural beauty surrounding the home.
The living room showcases the home’s rafters in a medium wood tone that stretches across the entire ceiling. Using natural materials is a pinnacle of the coastal farmhouse style and gives the room a great deal of warmth. The designer’s choice to use recessed lighting–rather than pendants or a statement lighting feature–leaves the ceiling unencumbered and keeps the ceiling structure as the main focal feature. Along the floors of the entire home is engineered wood that’s durable, long-lasting, and in a timeless and warm chestnut tone that plays off of the ceiling wonderfully.
The main living area leads right into the open kitchen, where the deep blue of the lake is mimicked in the glossy ceramic subway tile on the backsplash. Against the bright white of the cabinets and quartz countertops, the backsplash offers a striking and sophisticated contrast. Recessed lighting is carried into the kitchen as well, leaving the space feeling clean and tidy.
Ample storage in the home’s U-shaped kitchen echoes the old adage: A place for everything, and everything in its place. Even with floor-to-ceiling cabinets, a storage island, and an efficient kitchen layout that leaves plenty of room for upper and lower cabinets, Robinson Renovation & Custom Homes still managed to incorporate loads of natural light with two single-hung windows. The white cabinets are in the transitional shaker style and feature understated hardware.
The nods to coastal living continue in the bedrooms through various shades of blue, white, and natural wood tones in the decor and furnishing of the home’s bedrooms. To keep the airy and fresh feel of each space, Robinson used natural light and minimal features to the home’s advantage. For each room, a simple, contemporary ceiling fan recedes out of view due to its white finish that matches the ceiling color.
The full bathroom fits perfectly within the cohesive style of a refreshing color palette. The slight color variation of the deep sea blue shower wall tiles anchors the space. The same style and materials of the kitchen are carried into the space in the storage vanity, countertop, and hardware. A counter-to-ceiling vanity mirror makes use of every available square inch to help the bathroom feel larger. The engineered wood the homeowner chose for the flooring across the lake house is useful in the bathroom, where durability and water resistance are especially important.
In the primary bathroom, the walk-in shower is enclosed in frameless glass to show off the same deep sea blue ceramic tiles. The shower floor is covered in penny tile that features nearly every shade of blue-gray and resembles the pebbles you might find on the lake’s shores. The deep colors of the shower are contrasted here as well against the bright white of the shaker storage vanity, quartz vanity top, and bright white wall color.
